A small Croatian language school in Buenos Aires celebrated its 70th birthday, with the support of the Croatian Mother of Emigrants and the Ministry of Science, Education and Youth of the Republic of Croatia.
The official program was held in the Croatian Catholic Center of St. Nikola Tavelić on Tejar. Teacher Martina Prpić led the program in which the students of the Small School performed with a short presentation, two traditional dances ("Little Brother Ivo" and "Oj pchičice lastavčice") and the folklore dance "Dunaj, Dunaj" (Prigorski dance). A video with a list of teachers and assistants and photos over the years was also shown.
The presenter greeted the attendees and pointed out that without the volunteer work of Croatian emigrants, the Small School would certainly not have survived this year. Maintaining and promoting Croatian culture, tradition and language, love for Croatia, are the main reasons for the long-term existence of the Small School.
Fr. Josip Peranić, head of the Croatian Catholic Center of St. Nikola Tavelić and the spiritual director of the School, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia in Buenos Aires, Duška Paravić. With a big THANK YOU to those who helped, to those who are helping now, and especially to current students and parents, those present are invited to the Argentine-Croatian Youth Center (school) in Pico Street for a photo exhibition and a snack.
The photo exhibition was set up by teacher Martina Prpić, Alejandro Monteagudo and Ornella Cardaci. There were about 130 guests. Many recognized themselves in the photos, and remembered what the Little School was like once upon a time. The tambourine group of young people from the Society of Croatian Catholic University and High School Students played several songs to the applause of the guests.
