The Danish contingent as part of the NATO mission in Iraq organized on December 7, 2024 at the UNION III base in Baghdad the traditional DANCON March, known for its endurance challenge, in which about two hundred members, including soldiers, policemen and civilians from all NATO member states, participated -as well as the partner country.
The winner of the race, Major Nikola Vlašić, won first place by crossing the 25-kilometer course while carrying ten kilograms of equipment on his back. In addition to him, five other members of the 12th Croatian contingent who are in the NATO mission in Iraq successfully completed the race.
The DANCON March was originally designed to test the physical endurance of soldiers in field conditions while encouraging social interaction. It is also an excellent opportunity for each participant to test their psychophysical abilities, push their limits of endurance and, at the same time, achieve social interaction by getting to know other participants.
DANCON March is a long-standing tradition and trademark of the armed forces of the Kingdom of Denmark and was first held in 1972 during the UN peacekeeping mission in Cyprus, and since then it has been carried out in almost all NATO and UN operations and missions around the world.
