Milanović: We are obliged to mark the thirtieth anniversary of "Storm" in a magnificent way

President Zoran Milanovic proposes that the 30th anniversary of the Military-Police Operation "Storm" be marked with a ceremonial parade of the Croatian Armed Forces on Victory Day on August 5th in Zagreb, it was announced today from Pantovčak.

We are publishing the President's statement in full:

"This year, the Republic of Croatia will mark the 30th anniversary of the victorious Military-Police Operation "Storm", which liberated the largest part of the previously occupied Croatian territory in August 1995. As the President of the Republic and the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia, I believe that we are obliged to mark the 30th anniversary of the greatest and most important victory of the Croatian Army in the Homeland War in a unique, magnificent and victorious way: with a ceremonial parade of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia on August 5 in Zagreb.

We owe this to all Croatian defenders who defended and liberated Croatia and for whom we celebrate the anniversary of "Storm" on August 5th every year as the Day of Victory and Homeland Gratitude and the Day of Croatian Defenders. There is no national holiday that can be more strongly, more emotionally and more truly associated with the victory and glory of the Croatian Army than August 5th. I believe that every Croatian person would be proud to see on August 5th, 2025, in the capital of Croatia, all the strength and equipment of the modern Croatian Army. And it would also be an opportunity for members of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia to demonstrate and present their readiness and ability to protect Croatian borders and guarantee security for the Croatian people.

The anniversary of "Storm" is a unique national holiday that is truly celebrated throughout our homeland because Croatian people from every part of Croatia participated in that great victory. We all know that without that victory of the Croatian Army, there would be no Croatia as we have it today, and that is why it is Victory and Homeland Gratitude Day and Croatian Defenders' Day – a day that unites Croatia. Let the ceremonial military parade on August 5 be a symbolic guarantee of preserving the memory of the glorious victory in the Homeland War and a real guarantee of the unity of the Croatian people in the present and the future.

"Given the significance of the military parade, all military, organizational and financial aspects should certainly be considered at the Defense Council session - the convening of which I proposed to the Prime Minister and which I believe will be held soon - in order to start preparations on time and ensure all prerequisites for its holding on August 5 in Zagreb."
