"Šibenik Ballad" for 25 years of "Šibenik Klapa Evenings"

Šibenik's klapa evenings ended with a concert on Trg Republike Hrvatska, which this year, organized by the Tourist Board of the City of Šibenik, saw its jubilee, 25th edition, and the performance of all the klapa, which together sang the legendary 'Šibenik Ballad', the anthem of Šibenik, was particularly impressive. .

On the square in front of the Town Hall and St. Jakov's Cathedral, 11 klapas out of a total of 14 performed, which from the beginning of July until the end of September presented themselves at the Small Lodge, now a cult place of Šibenik's klapa script, where Sibenik klapa evenings are traditionally held .

The final concert was an excellent opportunity for the Šibenik audience, as well as guests of the city of Šibenik, to once again, at a joint concert, hear the klape of Bonac, Ondin, Adria, Dota, Solaris, Skradinke, Žirje, Skradinski buk, More, Bunari and Sebenico.

"The concert was actually a retrospective of what happened during July, August and September at the Small Lodge, where a large number of lovers of classical literature regularly gathered", says the program manager of this manifestation since its first days, Nikola Urukalo, adding that due to other commitments, the Mirakul, Kvartin and Ultima clappers did not perform at the final concert.

We must certainly mention, Urukalo says, the performances of our local poets, who are regulars of Šibenik's klapa evenings, who became part of the program in order to preserve the local word and snatch from oblivion the traditional customs that poets most often talk about in their verses. This year, chosen by Dink Škevin, Sandra Vulin, Mladen Tabulov Truta, Gojka Skorić Pelajić, Dragomir Bjelanović, Zvonimir Friganović, Josipa Bepa Jurat, Frane Bilić, Ivan Burić, Veronika Tomić, Lorenta Fuštin and Milena Mujezin presented their poetry.

The jubilee, 25th edition of Šibenik's klapa evenings was attended by a very large number of citizens, not only from Šibenik, and a great interest of foreign guests in klapa singing was also noticed, which is best evidenced by their constant questioning of where and how the sound carriers of individual klapa can be obtained. .

"We have no official data", says Nikola Urukalo, "but we estimate that 11 concerts, including the final one at Trg Republike Hrvatska, were attended by around three thousand visitors, which is an excellent confirmation of how popular klapa is in Šibenik and confirmation that Šibenik's klapa evenings have become a kind of Šibenik musical and tourist brand."

The Tourist Board of the City of Šibenik, let's remind you, started Šibenik's klapa evenings in 1999 precisely for the purpose of improving klapa singing and preserving the rich traditional heritage of a cappella singing, which Šibenik is particularly proud of. At the beginning there was only one evening with the performance of several klapas, but after only a few years the format was changed and Šibenik klapas evenings began to be held every Thursday in July, August and September. Over the course of 25 years, three locations were changed - the beginning was on the square in front of the Medulić cafe, then it was moved to the Small Lodge, and several evenings were held in the courtyard of the Monastery of St. Francis - before returning to the Small Lodge, which for many reasons proved to be as the city's best summer stage, especially for this type of singing.

Šibenik's klapa evenings have confirmed themselves as one of the most favorite summer musical events among the citizens of Šibenik. It is quite certain that certain production and content changes have already been announced with the intention of raising this manifestation to a higher qualitative level, to the pride of Šibenik, the city of singers and songs.
