Croatians Online, a media platform that connects Croats around the world, has just awarded the "Croat of the Month" award for the month of August this year.
This certificate, with which we highlight individuals or groups who work dedicatedly and consistently to promote Croatia, this time went to two Croatian women living in America. They are Tommi Mischell and Ella Mische, mother and daughter who joined forces and out of great love for their homeland devoted themselves to the organization of two large events that marked August in Šibenik this year.
The second half of August in Šibenik was marked by the 27th edition of "Evenings of Dalmatian Songs", and the role of artistic director of the festival this year was taken by the famous singer-songwriter, singer and designer Tommi Mischell.
Tommi is a successful business woman who headed a local festival, which is not very common in the male-dominated world of music. The tradition of Chanson was successfully continued, 24 new compositions were performed live in the heart of Šibenik, and in addition to the well-known names of local music, new talented performers were also given the opportunity to introduce themselves to the audience.
Tomma's daughter Ella is an actress, writer and producer who lives and works in New York, and is responsible for the organization of the first Croatian International Film Festival (CIFF), which took place from August 8 to 11. It is the first film festival in Croatia that is owned by a woman, and Ella founded it with the goal of connecting the film industries of the USA and Croatia.
Ella's mission was more than successful, the first CIFF gathered distinguished guests from all over the world in Šibenik and presented Croatia to the world film market. In addition, the festival gave the city a huge tourism promotion, bringing a touch of Hollywood and attracting media such as the Los Angeles Times and Variety.
These two big events, Tommi's music and Ella's film, significantly enriched the cultural life of Šibenik and Croatia in August of this year, which earned Tommi and Ella the title of Croat of the Month.
