American CSF scholarships for gifted students in Croatia and BiH

The largest Croatian expatriate foundation for scholarships for gifted students in their homeland - the Croatian Scholarship Fund (CSF) from California has chosen a new generation of scholarship holders, who will receive two and a half thousand dollars a year during their studies, the foundation announced on Friday.

The Croatian Scholarship Fund from California, after a rigorous procedure, chose 40 of this year's most promising graduates from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, to whom they will award multi-year university scholarships.

The students were chosen from several hundred applications, and among them are some of the most successful graduates. They will receive annual scholarships of US$2.500,00 during their five-year studies.

While in the CSF program, students are expected to maintain high grades, achieve excellent results in extracurricular activities and progress in their studies, the foundation states.

CSF has awarded scholarships to more than 400 gifted students

CSF was founded in 1989 in Northern California. Over the past 35 years, under the motto "Creating leaders through education", it has provided scholarships to more than 400 gifted young people of lower financial status, who successfully graduated from one of the universities in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and today are leading experts in their professions, the foundation points out.

Currently, more than 150 students receive CSF scholarships. Many of these students point out that without the financial and moral support of the CSF, it would be difficult for them to enroll or finish their studies.

The only wish of the founders and at the same time the obligation of the students is that they stay in Croatia after completing their studies, be successful in their professional life and thus contribute to the betterment of Croatian society.

"It is also the best way to create a new generation of young and capable leaders who will carry the development of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in various fields of activity", the CSF states.

There are twenty winners of this year's scholarship, male and female students of the first year, from the University of Zagreb.

Seven students received scholarships at the University of Split, five students at the University of Rijeka, and one student from the University of Osijek.

There are six students from the University of Mostar, and one student from the University of Sarajevo.

The Croatian Scholarship Fund is recognized by the US government as a non-profit organization, and it is managed by a Board made up of volunteers, distinguished Americans of Croatian origin.

The foundation is financed exclusively by donations, and the largest number of donors are second and third generation American Croats, who in this way want to help the development of their homeland.
