The year at the end confirmed once again that Šibenik-Knin County has a world pearl: "Krka" National Park in 2024 he won a gold award Green Destinations for sustainable tourism. This prestigious award, the first of its kind in Croatia and the second for national parks at the world level, is a confirmation of dedicated work on nature conservation, cultural heritage protection and local community development. Such recognition further motivates the Krka National Park team to continue developing sustainable practices and set an example for other protected areas in the country and the world.

The year was also marked by significant steps in connecting the local community and nature

In cooperation with the People's Open University of Knin, it was successfully implemented beekeeper training program, thanks to which thirteen participants gained new knowledge in encouraging ecological production and preserving biodiversity, so the program will continue next year. In addition, the Park has improved access to certain localities by opening a new parking lot above Roški Slap, with free transportation for visitors to the attractions of the middle course of the Krka River. This initiative not only enriched the visitors' experience, but additionally protected the sensitive environment from excessive traffic.

The international Erasmus+ project "Raising environmental awareness among young people from protected areas" brought together partners from Croatia, Latvia and Finland, who met last year within the framework of three study visits, during which they also worked on establishing the protocol of the Junior ranger environmental protection program. At the same time, the volunteer programs "Cleaner of the Krka River" and "Guardian of habitats of autochthonous species" brought together numerous volunteers from all over Croatia in a joint effort to preserve the natural values of the Park, from underwater cleaning of Lake Visova to the protection of rare plant and animal species.

This year, the "Krka" National Park also took part in the European campaign "We grow together", as part of which, on the International Labor Day, Skradinski buk distributed a thousand lavender and laurel seedlings. This action is part of joint efforts to achieve the goal of planting three billion trees on the Old Continent by 2030, which will contribute to mitigating climate change and restoring biodiversity.

Especially touching was the care of the turtle called Feniks Krka

After the rescue and recovery, the turtle was returned to nature, which symbolizes responsible behavior towards wild animals. The public institution "Krka National Park" and the Šibenik Paws Association marked the continuation of their cooperation in promoting animal protection, this time with the extension of the initiative to cats as well: they concluded a contract according to which every person who adopts a dog or cat cared for by the Šibenik Paws Association receives a free one-year membership in Krka Friends Club. With a message about the importance of preserving biodiversity, the "Blooming Krka" exhibition was held at Skradinski buk, which presented visitors with rare and endemic plants of this protected area.

The cultural heritage of the Park was also presented at the event Burnum's ides, which has been held in August for years. At this year's Idama, visitors could enjoy interactive performances and a musical concert at the Burnum archaeological site, as well as an award-winning documentary When I think of Krka - the smell of bread, which won the Intermedia Globe Gold award at the World Media Festival.

This year too, special attention was paid to those who visit the Park during the off-season

From November 2024 to the end of March 2025, the ticket price for adults is 7 euros, and for children 4 euros. It is an ideal opportunity to enjoy natural beauties such as Skradinski buk, Roški slap and Eco campus "Krka" in Puljani, in which accommodation is also possible, enjoys a peaceful environment, far from the summer bustle.

On the eve of its 40th birthday, which will be celebrated in January 2025 and will be celebrated throughout the year, the "Krka" National Park looks back with pride on all that has been achieved in those four decades. The celebration of this significant anniversary will be an opportunity to remember the path traveled, but also to look towards the future, in which sustainability, education and cooperation will remain fundamental values.
