When was the last time you saw objects from antiquity? If you happen to be in Split these days, you can see live the unique collection of restored glass objects from the ancient period united at the exhibition 'Fractures of Time' in the Emanuel Vidović Gallery in Split.
This exhibition is the result of cooperation between the Archaeological Museum in Split and the Museum of Ancient Glass in Zadar, it was first opened in March this year in the Museum of Ancient Glass in Zadar, and now it has arrived in Split. There, visitors will be able to see the fascinating preservation and presentation procedures of precious antique glass objects. In addition to the presentation of beautiful glass structures that are almost two millennia old, the exhibition also aims to present the complex conservation and restoration procedures applied to a group of exclusive glass objects from the holdings of the Archaeological Museum in Split that originate from the Roman period. These objects are of inestimable value, both because of their aesthetic beauty and because of the complexity of their preservation over the centuries, and some of them are rare in the entire area of the former Roman Empire.
'Fractures of Time' will provide visitors with a unique opportunity for a deeper understanding of the conservation and restoration procedures that are necessary for the preservation of this specific cultural and historical heritage. Special emphasis is placed on the fragility of the glass material and on the specific skills and technical mastery required for its processing and restoration. Through the cooperation of the Archaeological Museum in Split and the Museum of Ancient Glass in Zadar, the exhibition 'Fractures of Time' highlights the importance of expertise and dedication in preserving these valuable ancient artifacts.
The ceremonial opening was graced by representatives of these institutions, as well as representatives of the city and county authorities.
The exhibition was opened with appropriate words on behalf of the Split-Dalmatia County by Ph.D. Meri Maretić, Deputy Head of the Administrative Department for Culture, Sports and Technical Culture.
The exhibition 'Fractures of Time' remains open until December 1.
