    More than 1.500 descendants of Croats from Canada and America arrive in Croatia

    The President of the Republic, Zoran Milanović, today received representatives of the Croatian Fraternal Community of America, who are staying in Croatia on the occasion of the organization and holding of the Tambourine Festival in Zagreb.

    In Zagreb's Vatroslav Lisinski Hall on June 28 and 29, 2024, organized by the Croatian Fraternal Community and the Croatian Mother of Emigrants and under the auspices of the President of the Republic Zoran Milanović, the Tambura Festival "Tambura through Generations" will be held. More than 900 participants, parents and children - adults and juniors of all ensembles - will perform at the Festival, but other members of the community will also arrive in Croatia, according to an estimate of more than 1500 descendants of Croats from America and Canada, representatives of the Croatian Fraternal Community said at the meeting.

    During the conversation, they stated that a total of 41 ensembles of the Croatian Fraternal Community from the USA and Canada will, for this occasion, arrive in Zagreb to participate in the first joint Croatian cultural festival of the members of the Croatian Fraternal Community and show with their performances how they preserve Croatian heritage through their work . At the meeting, it was also pointed out that this kind of musical and dance presentation of the Croatian Fraternal Community and its members greatly contributes to the excellent relations between the United States of America, Canada and the Republic of Croatia, and at the same time shows the great success that the Croatian Fraternal Community has achieved during all the years of its active activities in establishing cultural cooperation with the Motherland.

    In addition to the Festival, representatives of the Croatian Fraternal Community informed President Milanović about their other activities as well as the challenges they face during their work and activities. The Croatian Fraternal Union was founded in 1894 and is a fraternal charitable society of the Croatian emigrants whose center is located in Pittsburgh.

    In the delegation of the Croatian Fraternal Community of America were the main president and president of the Executive and National Board of Directors Edward W. Pezo, general secretary/treasurer and secretary of the Executive and National Board of Directors Bernadette M. Luketich-Sikaras, executive vice president and member of the Executive and National Board of Directors Franjo Bertović, Second Vice President and National Board Member Michael J. Ricci, Board President and National Board Member Daniel C. Kochis, Board Secretary and National Board Member Ruth Sepich, Board Members and National Board Members John Miksich, Robert Luketic, Edward Sambol, Wayne Vlasic and John Staresinic, editors of Zajednicar Ivan Begg and Lorraine Turkall and director of Fraternal programs Derek Hohn.

    The President of the Republic was accompanied by the advisor to the President of the Republic for foreign and European policy Neven Pelicarić, the advisor to the President of the Republic for national security Dragan Lozančić, the director of the Croatian Home of Emigrants Mijo Marić and the head of the Service for Culture, Education, Science and Publishing of the Croatian Home of Emigrants Ivana Dvorneković.
