The wind quintet of the Luka Sorkočević School of Arts recently achieved exceptional success by winning first place at a prestigious international competition. Golden Classical Music AwardsAs first prize winners, Dubrovnik high school students were honored to perform at the famous Carnegie Hall in New York.
At the concert held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, the young musicians delighted everyone present, and on that occasion they were awarded awards from this renowned world music house. Under the expert guidance of Professor Điva Kušelj, the quintet consisted of Klara Brčić (flute), Đivo Sršen (oboe), Andrej Stipić (clarinet), Blanka Marija Franušić (horn) and Roko Negodić (baritone saxophone).
In addition to the official performance, the quintet attended a mass in Croatian on Sunday at the Croatian parish of St. Cyril and Methodius and St. Raphael, after which they performed a concert in front of the large Croatian community. During their stay in New York, the Croatian Consulate organized a visit to the United Nations headquarters, while the Dubrovnik Inc. Club from New York treated them to dinner at a famous restaurant after the concert. Trattoria dell'Arte.
"They are the pride of our city, Croatia and all of us who attended the concert and enjoyed it," said Srđan Gjivoje on behalf of the Management Board of Club Dubrovnik Inc.
This extraordinary success is another recognition of the talent and dedicated work of young musicians from Dubrovnik and their professor, mentor and head of the Department of Wind and Percussion at the UŠLS, Điva Kušelj.
