The real competitive buzz was felt in Primorsko Doc at the Split-Dalmatia County Small School Olympics, which gathered hundreds of students, and the best were the hosts, students of O.Š. Primorski Dolac.
The Olympics of small schools of the Split-Dalmatia County were held in the sports hall organized by the County Association of School Sports of the Split-Dalmatia County, where everything was prepared from early in the morning so that the Olympics would pass without a mistake. And they succeeded, because in the beautiful sports hall everything was subordinated to the competition, which means a lot to the students of small schools.
As the start time approached, students from all over the county arrived in the sports hall by bus, the competitors lined up neatly, and were welcomed by the mayor of the municipality of Primorski Dolac, Joško Dujmović. They also heard words of encouragement from Zdravko Omrčen, president of the County Sports Association. The honor of greeting them on behalf of Prime Minister Andrej Plenković went to Deputy Prefect Stipe Čogelja. He declared the Olympics open, and where the Olympics are burning, the Olympic flame was lit, so this symbol of the competition lit up in the sports hall. This year's Olympic flame was lit by a student from Elementary School. Aržano, last year's Olympiad winners.
This year, the students of fourteen elementary schools with up to 75 students competed at the Olympics, that is, starting with Elementary School Stjepan Radić Tijarica, which has the fewest students (13) and Elementary School Komiža, which has the largest number of students in that group (75).
Participating schools include one school from each island of our county (Hvar, Brač, Vis, Šolta and Čiovo) as well as schools from our Dalmatian Zagora.
When the referees gave the signal to start, the competition started in the true Olympic spirit 'citius, altius, fortius'. And indeed it was like that, faster, higher, stronger, they jumped far from their place, threw balls, ran 20 meters, climbed and pulled ropes. Little children's faces turned red, there was sweat, laughter and some tears because of a bad result. Volunteers of the County Sports Association took care of the regularity of the competition, teachers and school principals worried about every performance. The older ones remembered their sports performances from their youth with words "What about those 1985, 1986...?"
Many years later, brave primary school students gave their all, and numerous fans cheered them on from the stands. There were also support banners, one of them from the school in Slatine reads: Slatine come, they don't leave without victory.
Only one team is victorious, but today everyone won in Primorsko Doc, just like the wonderful thought from the popular Smogovci says. They are small, but they are big, that is, I mean, they are not small anymore, but they are big enough not to be small'. That's exactly how these big and small Olympians of the small schools of the Split-Dalmatia County are.
