May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time dedicated to recognizing the importance of emotional well-being and breaking the stigma surrounding mental health. Mental health affects every part of our lives, from our relationships and work to how we cope with stress and everyday challenges. Raising awareness encourages open conversations, compassion, and access to support for those who may be struggling.
This month serves as a reminder that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Mental health is something we all experience and should openly talk about, support, and normalize just as we do physical health. Whether through therapy, community support, self-care, or simply checking in on loved ones, prioritizing mental wellness is essential for everyone. Creating safe spaces for honest conversations can help people feel less alone and more empowered to seek the care and support they deserve.
Tune into an important discussion on the value of mental health awareness and care with our Sara Skoda and licensed social worker Laura Sophocleous, as they talk about the importance of support, understanding, and prioritizing mental wellness in our everyday lives.
Laura has family roots tied to the island of Ilovik, where both of her parents are from, and she has worked in the mental health field for over 20 years with teens, adults, families, and couples. She has a background in substance abuse counseling, family counseling, and a wide range of mental health support services.
