Croatians Online Attends Book Release Event for Kristin Vukovic’s “The Cheesemaker’s Daughter”

On the evening of Tuesday, August 6th, P&T Knitwear in Manhattan, NY, transformed into a literary haven for a special occasion—the book release event for Kristin Vukovic’s latest novel, The Cheesemaker’s Daughter. The event, attended by approximately 50 guests, celebrated the debut of a story set against the picturesque backdrop of Croatia’s island of Pag.

I was able to attend, representing Croatians Online, and was among those who gathered to support Vukovic’s new work. The evening was marked by an immersive Croatian experience, featuring cheese from Pag, renowned for its distinct flavor, and a selection of Croatian white and red wines. The menu offered a tantalizing glimpse into the novel’s Croatian setting, setting the stage for an engaging literary discussion.

Vukovic took the floor to speak about her novel, offering insights into her creative process and the inspirations behind her work. The evening’s atmosphere was both intimate and lively, with guests eager to hear Vukovic’s reflections and experiences. Following her presentation, Vukovic participated in a Q&A session where she addressed various topics, including the challenges of writing the novel and her plans for future projects.

One notable question from the audience was whether her subsequent novels would also be set in Croatia. Vukovic responded thoughtfully, indicating that while nothing is off the table, her future works will likely explore themes of immigration—a topic deeply intertwined with The Cheesemaker’s Daughter. Her current novel delves into this theme, reflecting its significance in both the story and her broader literary pursuits.

The event was especially timely, coming on the heels of a glowing review from the Associated Press, which praised Vukovic’s storytelling and the novel’s evocative portrayal of Croatian culture. The positive reception added an extra layer of excitement to the evening’s celebrations.

Attendees had the opportunity to purchase copies of The Cheesemaker’s Daughter, which Vukovic graciously signed. The book’s release has been met with enthusiasm, and the event at P&T Knitwear provided a perfect setting for fans to connect with the author and celebrate the novel’s arrival.
