Interview with Melissa Colovic children’s author of “Split by the Sea”

On July 18th Mark Plavetic from Croatians Online interviewed Melissa Colovic, the author of her charming children’s picture book, “Split by the Sea,” for an episode of the Little Nook podcast.

Melissa Colovic is a children’s author of three books who has always been an artist and is always creating, designing, and rhyming. Her childhood was filled with writing poetry, creating magazines, designing outfits, and building mini water parks (in her bedroom). In 2005, she graduated with a bachelor’s in arts, focusing on graphic design.  Her work experience started as a graphic designer for At Home in Arkansas magazine in Little Rock. Here, she expanded her design skills and developed a love for finding great fonts. She then took an opportunity to study abroad and work as a nanny in Croatia. When she returned, Melissa started as the Senior Designer for a screen-printing company, focusing more on illustration. The biggest adventure of her life began when she married a Croatian and started having babies. Soon after, she discovered her love for picture books. Melissa’s inspiration is fueled by music, long runs and traveling the world with her kiddos. Life is more magical through the lens of a child.

Summary: A young boy named Luka is struggling to fit in and learn Croatian when he moves from the United States to Split Croatia, but quickly learns from his dida (grandfather) that not everything is rushed.

Melissa Colovic’s “Split by the Sea” and her other books like “What a Hoot” and “Magic Hour” are available to purchase by visiting melissacolovic.com or amazon!
