    Six Western PA Sports Legends To Be Honored at Sold Out Croatian American Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

    Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvanians are well represented as the Croatian American Sports Hall of Fame Committee who welcomes eleven new members this Saturday evening on October 26th at the Pittsburgh Marriott Center City Hotel downtown.

    Pitt legends, Bill Fralic, Ralph Cindrich, and Tim Grgurich will be joined by Penn State football star Jim Laslovic of Etna, Pittsburgh softball star Paul Tomasovich and boxing world champion Fritzie Zivic who grew up in Lawrenceville highlight the impressive class of 2024. Along with Laslovic, is Georgia Bulldog football star Frank Sinkwich of Youngstown, Ohio, who won the Heisman Trophy in 1942, making him the first foreign born and Georgia Bulldog to receive the award. Johnston’s Frank Solich is also being inducted along with NBA World Champion Rudy Tomjanovich, who also won Gold as head coach of the USA Men’s Basketball team at the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics. He’ll be joined by two other Olympic medalists, track star, silver medalist Kara Grgas-Goucher, and hockey star John Mayasich, who won Olympic Gold (1960) and Silver (1956) for Team USA.

    The Croatian American Sports Hall of Fame was created to honor elite athletes that excelled in their respective sport as well as in their local communities while bringing pride to Croatian people everywhere. 

    The Saturday evening banquet will start with a cocktail reception at 5:00 pm with the banquet dinner and induction ceremony starting at 6:00 pm. The induction ceremony will be hosted by legendary FOX Sports-CNN broadcaster and Atlanta Hawks-Braves announcer, Jerome Jurenovich, and the President of the Croatian American Sports Hall of Fame Committee, Steve Rukavina.
