Two Croatian all-woman choirs released album of works by Dalibor Bukvić today

Today, the Brevis Vocal Ensemble and the Women’s Choir of the Academy of Arts and Culture in Osijek released their take on Croatian composer Dalibor Bukvić’s Horizon with Navona Records.

The large-scale choral work draws inspiration from the prehistoric Vučedol culture. The Vučedol people were present in Croatia’s Danube region, where the choirs are presently based.

Titled after astral symbols and shamanic rituals, the work’s movements combine contemporary techniques like tonal clusters and aleatoric elements with strikingly simple, often unison lines, evoking an aura of prehistory.

Both ensembles and their conductor, Antoaneta Radočaj-Jerković, have performed and competed internationally — from the Sydney Opera House to Carnegie Hall. This album was generously supported by the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia, Osijek-Baranja County and Institute of Choral Music Polifonija.
